Unlike when going on holiday whilst living at home and your parents look after the house for you, nobody will looking after the upkeep of your rental house when you are away over Christmas!
We are aware most of our tenants will be going home over the Christmas holidays, at least for a few weeks! So please see below our top tips to follow if your house will be vacant at any time period.

TURN YOUR HEATING DOWN – NOT OFF
Remember to NOT turn your heating off but turn it down low instead. If you turn your heating off, the pipes can freeze and this will be a big, very expensive problem for you.
TURN OFF ALL PLUG SOCKETS
THINK SAFE by making sure all plug sockets are turned off in your room and communal areas before going home.
TWIST TAPS SHUT
You don’t want to waste any water or money by dripping taps not fully closed off.
CLOSE & LOCK ALL WINDOWS
The last housemate to leave should go round your house and make sure that all windows and doors are shut and / or locked. An empty house is a perfect opportunity for a great deal of theft.
CONSIDER MILDEW & MOULD
Your house will not be ventilated whilst you are away as your windows / doors should be closed. This increases the chance of mildew and mould forming. So in the build-up before you go, be certain to open the windows and ventilate your house as much as possible. You should always be ensuring ventilation all year round. This also applies to showers! Open the windows and let the fan run.
EMPTY ALL THE BINS
You don’t want to come home to any infestations and leaving the bins to fester for a few weeks means you probably would…
CLEAR THOSE GUTTERS
However pretty Autumn may be, the fallen leaves can block your gutter. So before you go home, it is the perfect time to check over the gutters and make sure there are no blockages.
